SBP PUERTO RICO – SHRINKING TIME BETWEEN DISASTER AND RECOVERY
SBP is a national disaster resilience and recovery organization that exists to shrink time between disaster and recovery. SBP Puerto Rico’s short-term goal is to rebuild 100 homes in its first year of operation. Support from volunteers like you will help us achieve that goal and, together, we will bring Puerto Rican families back home.
SBP Puerto Rico accepts volunteers for full and half day opportunities with no experience for individuals and groups. They provide all the training!
SBP established its long-term operating site in Puerto Rico in August of 2018.. They have focused efforts in several municipalities, including Carolina, Canovanas, Loiza, San Juan and Yabucoa.

PARA LA NATURALEZA
We Protect and Preserve Puerto Rico’s valuable ecological lands and treasured historical places.
Volunteers can sign up to go in group outings to plant trees, perform maintenance on ecological gardens, conduct bird census, etcetera.
Each activity has a scheduled date. A volunteer can choose the date that they want to participate, and sign up. The volunteer experiences are outdoors, organized, and fun!

INSTITUTO NUEVA ESCUELA
An organization of schools who aim to shift Puerto Rico’s public education to embrace the Montessori method, which integrates academics and community/cultural awareness. Volunteers will volunteer directly in schools, supporting students, physical maintenance, gardening, etc,.

CARAS CON CAUSA
An organization that promotes community development to eradicate poverty through education, the environment and economic development. Volunteers will maintain mangroves through clearing paths, weeding and planting.

An Israeli organization working in Puerto Rico to provide safe drinking water and access to psychological support in communities recovering from Maria. Volunteers will work on constructing a water filter in Patillas.

CLEANING UP EL YUNQUE NATIONAL RAINFOREST
The National Rainforest needs your help! The only tropical rainforest on U.S. soil was destroyed by Maria. Nature has a way of springing back to life, but in order to thoroughly enjoy the forest, paths and trails need cleared and debris needs to be moved to make it a safe environment for all.

In response to Hurricane Maria, the Center for Volunteer Development will be mobilizing volunteers to help shelters and relief and recovery organizations after a natural disaster.
